21 Habits of Successful Leaders

Through my own experiences as a motivational keynote speaker on Leadership, along with my research and observations I have a come up with 21 habits that I believe successful leaders live by.

  1. They consistently feel good about themselves and believe in their own abilities.
  2. They help others to feel good about themselves and help others believe in their own abilities.
  3. They understand all business is about feelings and that people will never forget how you made them feel.
  4. They touch people’s hearts with stories so they actually want to make positive changes.
  5. They create an environment in which people can be the best they can be – joy filled, fear free.
  6. They are life long learners. They love to grow and develop and have an openness to new ideas- and an open heart.
  7. They question WHY things have to be a certain way and are willing to change, explore and try new things.
  8. They are generous with their time and praise.
  9. They see growing and developing others as a key part of their job.
  10. They ask for help.
  11. They seek out the best and learn from them – on purpose.
  12. They have a purpose and meaning for what they do – and inspire others with meaning and purpose.
  13. They are optimistic – they see mistakes as opportunities to learn , not failures.
  14. They are resilient – they bounce back because the story they CHOOSE to tell themselves is encouraging, compassionate or inspiring.
  15. They work at understanding their fears and don’t allow the fears to unconsciously rule their lives or behaviors.
  16. They are conscious of the fears that rule most people’s behaviors and address the needs that once met, eradicate those fears.
  17. They focus on things for which to be grateful – no matter what happens. They are ‘good finders’.
  18. They take responsibility for themselves and their actions – no blaming others!
  19. They lift up others – they are joy facilitators! They have fun!
  20. They are connected to something bigger than themselves.
  21. They have great vision and can instil that vision and hold it for others.

In short – they are emotionally conscious of themselves and others; they are comfortable with themselves; and they are JOYFUL!
