Privacy Policy

Amanda Gore’s website, amandagore.com, is run by The Joy Project LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who helps us look after it, and the choices you have. We’ve kept it short and in plain English. If anything is unclear, email amanda@amandagore.com and we’ll explain.

1. The short version

We collect only what we need to send you what you asked for, answer your inquiry, or fill your order. We never sell or rent your personal information, and we never share it for targeted advertising. You can unsubscribe, see what we hold, correct it or ask us to delete it at any time.

2. What we collect and why

When you join the Wired for Joy newsletter, we collect your name and email address so we can send you the Creating Joyful Cultures ebook and the newsletter.

When you download the Speaker Kit or a gift from Free Stuff, we collect your name and email address, and which download you chose, so we can send it and the Wired for Joy newsletter. Your browser also remembers you on that page, so every other gift is one click. You can clear this at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.

When you contact us or ask about booking Amanda, we collect your name, email, phone number, organization, event details and anything you write in your message, so we can reply and plan your event.

When you join the waitlist for the Unlock The Unspoken Effect course, we collect your name and email address so we can tell you when the course opens. The waitlist page also keeps a copy of your name and email in your own browser, on your device only. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data.

When you buy a book, ebook or product, you check out and pay on Square, which handles your payment details under Square’s privacy policy. We never see or store your full card number. Square gives us your order details, which are your name, email, shipping address and what you bought, and we use them to fill your order. For a printed copy of Joy Is an Inside Job, we also share your name and shipping address with IngramSpark, which prints and ships it, for that order only.

When you buy the Unlock The Unspoken Effect course, FreshLearn handles the checkout and your course login under FreshLearn’s privacy policy. We receive your name and email so we can welcome you and support you through the course.

When you book Amanda or work with us, we keep the contracts, invoices and correspondence that go with running a speaking business.

When you visit the site, our web host and security service automatically record basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit. We use this to keep the site safe, working and fast.

3. Who helps us

We use a small number of trusted services to run the site and the business. Each one receives only what it needs for its job, and handles your information under its own privacy policy and its agreement with us.

Videos and slides from Vimeo, YouTube, Instagram, SlideShare and TED are provided by those companies, and they may set their own cookies when a video loads or plays. Our YouTube videos use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode. Their privacy policies explain how they use that information.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or someone’s safety, or with a professional adviser such as our accountant or attorney. If the business is ever sold or restructured, your information would move with it under the same protections.

4. Cookies and tracking

The site uses only the small amount of browser storage it needs to work, such as remembering that you’ve already signed up on the Free Stuff page, or keeping your name and email on the waitlist page. We don’t use advertising cookies or tracking pixels of our own, and we never sell or share your information for advertising, so there’s nothing for a “Do Not Track” or opt-out setting to switch off. To see how many people visit and which pages they read, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies and collects no personal information. Videos and slides from other companies can set their own cookies when they play (see section 3).

5. Our emails

Every marketing email we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and one click takes you off the list. You can also reply and ask us to remove you. Unsubscribing stops our marketing emails, but we may still send messages you need, such as a reply to your inquiry, an order confirmation or a message about a course you joined. We only send marketing email to people who have signed up for it, and every marketing email shows who it’s from and how to reach us.

Our email service, Flodesk, records how many emails are sent, whether you open them and which links you click. We use this to see which ideas are useful and to send fewer things that aren’t. If you’d rather we didn’t have this, unsubscribe or email us and we’ll remove you.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your newsletter details until you unsubscribe. After that we may keep a minimal record, such as your email address, only so we never add you back by mistake. We keep inquiries and booking records for as long as we need them to work with you, and financial records for as long as tax law requires. We keep course waitlist entries until you ask us to delete them or we stop using them, and we review them from time to time. Course records, such as your login and progress, are kept while you have access to the course and for a reasonable time after. Basic technical records kept by our web host and security service are held for a short period. When we no longer need information, we delete it or make it anonymous.

7. How we protect it

We use reputable services with strong security, encrypted connections (https) across the whole site, and access limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so if a breach ever puts your information at risk, we’ll tell you and the relevant regulators as the law requires.

8. Your choices and rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

• tell you what personal information we hold about you and send you a copy
• correct anything that’s wrong
• delete your information
• stop sending you marketing emails
• withdraw any consent you’ve given

Email amanda@amandagore.com with your request, or write to The Joy Project LLC, PO Box 820024, Dallas, TX 75382, USA. We’ll confirm who you are, then aim to respond within 30 days. There’s no charge, and we’ll never treat you differently for asking. Some requests can be limited where the law requires us to keep information, for example tax and accounting records, or to protect legal claims. If we can’t do what you ask, we’ll tell you why. If you disagree, reply to our answer and we’ll review the decision within 45 days. If you’re still unhappy and live in a US state with its own privacy law, you can contact your state attorney general.

9. Visitors from Australia

We handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles, even where the law may not strictly require it. The services we use store information mainly in the United States, so when you give us your details, they’re held overseas. We choose services that protect personal information to a standard similar to Australian law. If you have a concern, contact us first so we can put it right. If you’re still unhappy, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

10. Visitors from Europe and the UK

We use your information for these reasons: you’ve given us consent (for example, to join the newsletter); we need it to deliver what you asked for or to fill an order; we have a legal duty, such as keeping tax records; or we have a legitimate interest in running and protecting the business, answering inquiries and keeping the site secure. Because our services store information in the United States, we choose providers that protect personal information, and you can ask us how. You have the rights listed in section 8. You can also object to our use of your information or ask us to restrict it, you can ask for your data in a portable format where that applies, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.

11. Children

This website is for adults and organizations. We never knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you think a child has given us their details, email us and we’ll delete them.

12. Changes to this policy

When we update this policy, we’ll change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll also let newsletter subscribers know by email.
