The Method That Makes Joy a Skill

Joy is a skill anyone can learn.

Amanda Gore JQ® is the method created by CPAE Speaker Hall of Fame speaker Amanda Gore to make joy a practical skill at work. It gives leaders and teams simple tools to manage their state, build trust and create cultures where people want to stay, and it sits behind every keynote and workshop she delivers.

How people feel is how they perform. Every leader knows it. Very few were ever shown what to do about it. Learn more about joy at work, why it pays and how to get more of it.

Amanda Gore JQ® is what to do about it. It’s the method behind Radiate Joy and behind every keynote and workshop Amanda delivers. It treats joy as a skill people practice, the same way they practice presenting or negotiating, with tools small enough to use in the middle of a busy day.

The JQ in Amanda Gore JQ® stands for Joy Quotient, and the whole point is to raise it: how well a person manages their own state, connects with and inspires others, contributes, and performs under pressure.

Three questions every person at work is asking

Walk into any meeting and three quiet questions are running in every head. Do I matter here? Am I safe here? Do I belong here?

When the answer is yes, people speak up, try new things and look out for each other. When fear answers instead, people hide mistakes and go quiet in the meetings that matter most. Amanda calls those fearful answers the three core fears.

Amanda Gore JQ® teaches leaders and teams how to answer yes, for themselves first and then for the people around them. That’s what psychological safety feels like from the inside.

Why it pays

Joy shows up in the numbers. Engaged teams deliver 23% higher profitability and up to 51% lower turnover (Gallup). Positive brains are 31% more productive and 37% better at sales (Shawn Achor).

People leave bosses, not jobs. Leaders who can change how a room feels keep their best people, and their best people keep their customers.

People leave bosses, not jobs.

In under a minute, Amanda explains why intelligence and experience get people hired and promoted, and why joy is what makes them want to stay. It struck a nerve with leaders all over the world.

Small tools. Big shift.

Amanda Gore JQ® is practical. Every idea comes with a tool people use the same day, and most of them take less than a minute.

Amanda uses symbols, acronyms and simple techniques on purpose, because people remember them. A picture paints a thousand words. So does a pair of gratitude glasses, a joy buddy or four letters like F.A.R.K. Each one carries a whole idea in a form people can recall in a split second, right when they need it.

F.A.R.K.

A quick way to catch a fear-driven reaction before it takes over a decision or a conversation. F is Focus and feelings: notice what you’re focusing on and what you’re feeling. A is Awareness: the pause that turns a reaction back into a choice. R is Reframe: see the situation in a more useful way. K is Knowing, kindness and kudos: act on what’s true, treat people with kindness and give credit where it’s due. About sixty seconds, in real meetings, under real pressure.

Joy buddies

The smiley-face finger puppets that turn up in Amanda’s keynotes, and a light-hearted way for people to acknowledge each other on a tough day.

People love their joy buddies, because a joy buddy is an accountability buddy and a resilience buddy. They keep them on their desks as a reminder of everything they learned in Amanda’s session.

Ta-das and tiny ta-das

Toddlers celebrate every small win with a ta-da, and everyone cheers. Amanda brings the ta-da back to work, because noticing someone’s progress out loud puts courage into them. A tiny ta-da is for the moments when a full ta-da won’t fit, like the middle of a meeting. People give themselves a tiny ta-da on the inside, and at a neuroscience level, that small celebration reinforces the new behavior.

It’s the fastest form of recognition there is, and it costs nothing.

Gratitude glasses

The gratitude glasses Amanda uses on stage are heart-shaped. Then she gets the whole audience to make their own: a circle between thumb and first finger on each hand, held up over the eyes. Everyone walks out with a free pair.

Gratitude is the master reframer, so Amanda encourages people to look at everything in life through their gratitude glasses. She calls that being a gratitude finder, or a good finder.

The Life Pizza

Amanda’s model for seeing your whole life at a glance and spotting where it’s out of balance. It’s the heart of The Joy Formula workshop.

Chief Joy Facilitator

The title every person in the room leaves with. When people see themselves as a Chief Joy Facilitator, it changes how they behave at an unconscious level, often before they notice it.

Amanda believes anyone can change how a room feels, whatever their job title says. And people love the idea of walking away with CJF on their business cards.

30+ years of study, tested on stages in over 20 countries

Amanda Gore trained as a physiotherapist, with a major in psychology, and worked as a wellness consultant in ergonomics and occupational health. She became a Master Practitioner of Neurolinguistics with John Grinder, and studied nonverbal communication and group dynamics with Michael Grinder for 30 years. She still spends a third of every year studying neurolinguistics, neuroscience, emotional intelligence and quantum physics.

Amanda Gore JQ® is what that study looks like once it has been tested with over 2 million people, for organizations including Google, McDonald’s and American Express.

Then comes the part most researchers skip. She turns the science into tools simple enough that people use them that same afternoon, at work and at home.

What clients say

Thank you so much, Amanda, for your recent presentation to our retailers. The feedback has been so positive from everyone who attended - they really didn’t know what to expect - but left uplifted, refreshed and motivated. They are still talking about Joy Buddies, Sparkly Bits and other concepts two weeks later, so it’s definitely stayed with them! It’s been a really tough 18 months, and this has given those who attended a really great mindset to move forward. Impactful delivery, great messages, and you had people laughing out loud, reflecting, learning and even dancing. Just fabulous, thanks again.

Nearly a month later, there has not been a work day go by that something from Amanda’s video taped session hasn’t made its way into our daily conversations. All of us who attended these sessions received our own ’Fun Fairy’ wands and a finger puppet which are both proudly displayed in most all of our cubes and offices. It was simply too much fun and too enlightening not to share with others.
Hobart Corporation
What a joy to finally meet you, and now that I’ve seen you ’do your thing’ I understand why everyone’s so crazy about you! You should see this place today, sparkles everywhere, dancing District Managers ta-da-ing everyone in sight.
