Because communication is something people experience.

In 30+ years on global stages, speaking to over 2 million people in more than 20 countries, I’ve learned to pay attention to what happens between a speaker and the people in front of them.

The words matter. So do the person delivering them, the state they’re in, the way they listen and the way they respond.

You can prepare every sentence and still miss the connection. You can care deeply and come across as impatient. You can have a valuable idea and struggle to help people understand it.

That gap is why I created The Unspoken Effect.

What you think and feel shouts so loudly that others can’t hear what you say, and it influences everything and everyone around you.

Have you ever been told to “be more confident”? Or to have more presence? More gravitas? Those instructions can leave you wondering what you’re actually supposed to change.

I want to help you recognize what influences your communication and give you practical ways to work with it. How you prepare. How you feel. What you assume. Where you put your attention. What your face, voice and body communicate alongside your words. And how you notice whether people are receiving the message you intended.

What I bring to this work

I trained as a physiotherapist with a major in psychology, and later became an NLP Master Practitioner. My career has taken me into leadership events, conferences and organizations around the world.

On stage, I work with attention, connection, participation and the changing energy of a room. I have to notice when people are engaged, when something needs clarifying and when it is time to change my approach. In other words, I’m in a constant nonverbal conversation with the people around me, with the people in the audience.

In this course, I bring that experience into situations you encounter at work: explaining an idea, giving feedback, leading a meeting or preparing a presentation.

Why I start with awareness

Awareness gives you a starting point. Practice helps you use it.

  • If you notice that you become defensive when questioned, you have something specific to work with.

  • If you recognize that nerves make you rush, you can practice a different pace.

  • If you discover that your expression looks impatient when you are concentrating, you can become more deliberate about how you show attention.

That is why the course connects what you’re broadcasting with what other people are receiving.

And yes, there will be joy.

I bring humor, warmth and participation into my teaching. Recognizing something about yourself can be a relief. Trying a new skill can be fun. You can take your development seriously and enjoy learning.

I want you to leave each lesson with something useful to notice, practice or try.

Feedback from people I’ve coached in communication and presentation skills, followed by feedback from my live audiences.

I've had the pleasure of receiving speaker mentoring from Amanda. In less than an hour, she helped me transform a talk from a passive experience into something much more engaging, effective, and FUN. Beyond the immediate help, Amanda shares little-known speaking tips that apply to any talk and general life wisdom too. If you have a talk you want to elevate by making it more engaging, interactive, and memorable, I recommend Amanda wholeheartedly!

Where do I begin about our session yesterday, Amanda?!!! I'll start with a huge THANK YOU for sharing so much of your wisdom and expertise with me. I couldn't stop smiling for hours afterwards and am so excited to start (a small step at a time) putting your feedback into action. The structure suggestions, pure brilliance. Body positioning tips, such an eye-opener. Engaging the audience in more of a conversation, a gamechanger. Can't wait to have some fun with my next keynote and also to have another session with you sometime. Amanda doesn’t just coach you, she completely shifts how you think, speak, and connect. I’ve never felt more aligned with my message or powerful on stage.
