In the last two columns, we have worked out who you are and how to manage your own moods. Today we explore managing relationships, in 300 words! So it’s short and not comprehensive! LOL
I am going to cover two aspects only. Both involve taking responsibility for your own actions. Which is always the first place to start!
YOUR STORY.
What story do you tell yourself about the person or people in the relationship?
Your story determines how you manage the relationship. If you like someone, trust them and find them valuable to your life, you will treat them very differently from the person you tell yourself is boring, has a hidden agenda, irritates you, is out to get you, doesn’t like you, doesn’t work as hard as you do, is backstabbing etc.
The story you tell yourself about others is rarely based on the truth! It’s based on your judgment of that person, on your perceptions and assumptions of what they are thinking. If they have repeatedly done things to demonstrate a need for caution, be alert; but generally, people are not evil or out to get you!
The second is to BE A GOOD FINDER.
Find good in every one you meet or have to interact with today. Every day! You will be stunned at how this small change transforms ALL your relationships. Actively looking for something good about someone will alter your whole view of them.
People who are successful in all areas of life have this as a common quality. They find good not just in people, but in all situations. My Qi Gong master says “everything is a good thing. Every day is a good day. Every place is a good place.” And I would add “ every person is a good person”, because in their hearts they are. Try to see that good heart in everyone. All the time.
