When you squeeze an orange, what do you get? Orange juice! Of course.
What do you get when you ‘squeeze’ a human? It depends!
I remember hearing Wayne Dyer ask this question years ago, and have thought about it intermittently ever since.
It came up again recently when I was thinking about how people at work treat each other!
Someone was telling me about a boss with VERY little emotional intelligence. It would appear this boss was pretty unhappy in their home life as well and took it out on people at work! This is unacceptable.
One of the critical components of emotional intelligence is knowing yourself, connecting your heard and your heart, and managing yourself.
Underlying most feelings of defensiveness, anger, inappropriate displays of power, frustration or anything other than love, compassion and generosity is fear.
If you look inside and see fear, it’s time to deal with it!
Shine a light on it and it might just vaporize, just like fear of something in a dark room goes when you turn the light on! Becoming aware of our fears often dispels them instantly! Or at least allows us to manage them, and therefore ourselves!
Question the fears you find, many are baseless and from the past, not current and certainly not useful! Seriously, examine the fears and you might find the source of the feelings that normally come out when you are ‘squeezed’!
And what we do with our families at the end of a long, stressful day! Allow that nasty stuff to squirt out all over them? Another no no! De- stress on the way home, so you can shower them with love!
When you are under pressure, when you are ‘squeezed’, what comes out?
Anger? Jealousy? Defensiveness? Frustration, all based in fear?
Or love, compassion, understanding and caring?
WAKE UP AND WIN
Time to look inside and make sure that you have only good stuff there so that’s what comes out when you are squeezed next time!
